About
His faith journey
Pastor Ray grew up in Hong Kong and came to faith at thirteen after hearing a message from John 8 about the woman caught in adultery. The passage helped him understand the grace and forgiveness of Jesus and challenged him to examine his own life rather than judge others. That summer, he began attending a church fellowship and committed his life to following Christ.
As a teenager, Pastor Ray promised God that if he were given the opportunity to study drama and music, he would use those gifts for ministry. He was later accepted into the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, graduated with honors, and worked for ten years as a professional actor with the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre.
His calling to creative ministry
In 2004, Pastor Ray was invited to write and lead a large musical production for the 140th anniversary of St. Stephen’s Church. The production involved the whole congregation and showed him how performing arts could complement preaching and communicate the Gospel in a powerful and accessible way.
In 2007, he left his professional acting career and established a stage production company focused on reaching young people through drama and music. Over the next twenty years, he wrote, directed, composed, produced, and taught through nearly 500 productions in schools, community centers, theaters, and large public venues.
His pastoral and ministry experience
After moving to Canada, Pastor Ray became increasingly involved in church ministry. He has taught Sunday school, visited elderly members, led couples’ and parents’ fellowships, served on worship teams, led Bible studies, and developed outreach programs for children, youth, young adults, and families.
Since 2022, he has served as a Youth Evangelist at the Anglican Network Church of the Good Shepherd in Vancouver. There, he started the Young Family Ministry and the “Little Shepherd Series,” which includes a children’s choir, Chinese storytelling, and musical productions. The ministry has welcomed more than 90 children and over 20 families.
He also serves with Asian and Multicultural Ministries in Canada, where he leads creative outreach programs, music ministry, and an Alpha Course. Through the “Friend, Drama & Fun” youth platform, more than 100 young people have received training, and its public performances have reached over 2,000 audience members.
Education and beliefs
Pastor Ray is completing a Master of Arts in Religion at Trinity Anglican Seminary. He also holds degrees in vocal music, education, media management, and acting.
His beliefs are grounded in historic Christian faith: one God in three Persons, Jesus Christ as fully God and fully man, the Bible as the final authority for faith and life, salvation by grace through faith, and the future return of Christ. He also believes that the Holy Spirit continues to work through believers today, always with biblical grounding and discernment.
Pastor Ray hopes to use his pastoral, musical, and creative gifts to share the Gospel, disciple believers, and help children, young people, and families grow in Christ. His desire is to continue becoming a humble servant who faithfully uses the gifts God has given him.
