SECTION D: Deacons

1. Duties. The Deacons shall serve to support and assist the Senior Pastor and the Ministerial Staff in charitable and caring ministries. When the Church is without a Senior Pastor, the Deacons, in conjunction with the Ministerial Staff, shall be responsible for conducting the worship services.

2. Term. Each Deacon shall be elected by the Church to serve a three-year term. No person shall be elected to fill the unexpired term of another. No person shall be elected as Deacon for a term begins less than one year following the conclusion of that person’s prior term as Deacon. The initial elected deacons shall have staggered terms as assigned by the Church Council (i.e. 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year terms) to ensure the continuity of the Deacons on an ongoing basis.

3. Qualifications. Each person elected as a Deacon shall have possess the following qualifications:

  1. Spiritual Qualifications. In accordance with Acts 6:1-6, each Deacon shall be full of the Holy Spirit, full of wisdom and full of faith.
  2. Moral Qualifications. In accordance with Timothy 3:8-13, each Deacon shall (i) be worthy of respect and have good reputation; (ii) be sincere and not double-tongued; (iii) not indulge in much wine or other bad habits; (iv) not pursue dishonest gain; (v) be faithful inmarriage, as applicable; (vi) have sexual purity; (vii) manage his/her children and household well, as applicable; and (viii) be trustworthy in everything.
  3. Qualifications specific to the Church. In addition to the qualifications set forth in Article VII, Section D(3)(a)-(b) above, each Deacon must (i) be an active member of the Church for more than 10 years prior to election; (ii) be faithful in tithing and stewardship of resources; and (iii) faithfully attend worship, life group meetings and prayer meetings.

In the event an individual has been recommended to be a candidate for Deacon and such individual has been an active member of the Church for at least five (5) years and previously served as a deacon for more than five (5) years at a church in which such church’s beliefs are aligned with the Church’s beliefs, such individual’s candidacy for Deacon shall be subject to the approval of the pastoral staff prior to confirmation of candidacy and inclusion in the ballot for election.

Church Council Composition:

SECTION C: Church Council

The Church Council shall assist the Senior Pastor and the Ministerial Staff in planning, conducting, coordination and evaluation of the activities of the Church and its programs. The members of the Church Council shall be the Senior Pastor (or Interim Senior Pastor (ISP)), the lead pastor of each campus, one Deacon from each existing church campus at any given time (after completion of the initial election of Elections), Mission Pastor or Chair of Mission Committee, Treasurer, Operation Direction and Information Management Director. The Senior Pastor (or ISP) shall serve as the Chairperson of the Church Council or he may designate another Chairperson. In the absence of the Senior Pastor or ISP, the Chairperson of the Deacons shall be the Chairperson of the Church Council. More than 50% of the Church Council Members, present in person or in a designated form of virtual presence as informed by the church in advance, shall constitute a quorum.
