From the Heart of a Shepherd

Last Sunday, I attended the joint worship service at the Pleasanton campus to celebrate its 10th anniversary of building dedication. I sat in a corner at the back of the hall, worshipping God with the brothers and sisters in Christ.

I want to thank and praise God, because I rarely have the opportunity to simply worship without doing anything else. I am familiar of all the worship hymns and the scriptures, but through these hymns and scriptures, as well as Pastor Chan’s reflections, his testimony and message, God showed me His protection and care for the church over the past ten years.

Our Pleasanton campus is the result of the merger of the Dan Wah Baptist Church and Crosspoint Church. Our first worship service was held in April 2012 in the banquet hall of the Koi Palace Seafood Restaurant, with 203 people in attendance. Two years later, in August 2014, we signed a contract with the previous owner to purchase the current property. Renovations were completed in September 2016, and we moved into our current facility to begin our weekly Sunday worship.

Over the past decade, the Lord’s grace has been immeasurable, yet the devil’s attacks have never ceased from the very beginning. But as I said at the outset, the Heavenly Father has always protected and watched over the church He established. Therefore, although we have experienced the pandemic and various spiritual storms, we can still stand firm because God is with us. As long as we follow the Bible, honor the Lord, and do what pleases Him, we have nothing to fear!

Pastor Chan shared God’s wondrous provision with the brothers and sisters before collecting the offerings of the day. Last year, he was moved by God to match brothers and sisters’ offerings with a maximum of $10,000. He gave thanks to God because the brothers and sisters donated about $11,000 the following week. This year, Pastor Chan is again moved by God’s blessings and grace, challenging the brothers and sisters to faithfully give to support the church’s ministry. This time, he will match their donation with $20,000 maximum, asking the brothers and sisters to bring their loving offerings to the church next week.

As you know that Pastor Chan is a volunteer pastor and the church does not paid him anything. Over the past year, he and his wife have not only devoted themselves wholeheartedly to the cause of the church, they also set an example in giving, which has deeply moved me.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord, since we have seen the protection and care of our Heavenly Father, and He still gives us the opportunity to worship and serve Him, let us ask God to encourage us through His work: “Be steadfast, immovable, always striving abundantly in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor in the Lord will not be in vain.”

Prayer Requests

  • Praise be to God! Last Sunday, our Pleasanton campus celebrated its 10th anniversary with over 240 people in attendance, recounting the Lord’s blessings together. We pray that the Lord will continue to use our church over there being a beacon in the community.
  • Pray for the evangelistic conference to be held on Saturday, October 10th. Let us pray that God’s Spirit will move and guide the outside speakers to prepare appropriate messages for the church, so that the congregation understands God’s will and will actively respond to the challenge of evangelism.
  • Pray for the joint retreat that our three Mandarin-speaking congregations are preparing to hold. Let us pray that God will use this opportunity to unite the three congregations into a powerful spiritual army, fighting for Christ in different places, breaking down the devil’s strongholds in people’s hearts, and saving more lost souls.
  • Pray for the English next generation ministry. Let us pray that God will use Pastor Caleb Hankin, Pastor David Choi, and Pastor Gideon Lee to develop appropriate strategies for expanding our next generation’s ministry, tailored to the development stage of each church location.
  • Pray for the Deacon Ordination Planning Committee and the deacons to be ordained. Ask God to use this event to inspire the members of the church to love God and His church, and to be willing to work together to build a church that glorifies God and exalts Christ.
